Elise in the states? & drivers school?

I am from Dayton OH & went to Columbus last weekend for a V-ball tourney. On the way up there I about crapped my pants when I saw what I thought to be was a roadgoing Elise hardtop going the opposite way on interstate 70. Do any of you know if such a car exists here in the states? I was aware that they had race only cars available but I was surprised to see what I thought was one on the highway!!!

on a side note, do any of you do drivers schools in the Ohio area? I presently go to Putnam Park in Indiana & I would love to attend some where there are some lotus'ssssss.

Well I can tell you that I have seen some Elises for sale on Ebay that are road legal. I dont know how, and it still had the rover engine in it.

It was probably a Sun conversion of a gray market vehicle or they were using generic dealer plates. There is also rumored to be more than one registered as an M100 Elan.
