Have been wondering for a while but never bothered to ask. The panel that has the heater and fan swtiches on it has the emblem "TURBO ESPRIT". As mine is a 89 non SE Esprit Turbo could it be possible the original panel was damaged at some stage and replaced with a older one being the same dimensions? Not that I don't mind older parts but just would like to hear from other owners that have 89's onwards what emblem is on theirs.

Thanks
Kylie

My 90 SE heater panel just says Esprit in between the control knobs.

My car is an 88 Turbo and it says "Turbo Esprit" too. The title says Esprit Turbo though.

Kylie, min says 'Esprit' on my 1990 Turbo. It was manufactured in Sept 1990.
Have you checked whether your car was manufactured in 89 or 88, even though it may be registered in 89? It also could have been standard for the model in that particular part of the year for your country.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Dave I have previously read some info in the attached site which does a scan on your VIN no. If it is valid it tells me my car was made in 89.

www.espritfactfile.com/

I searched on a guys website black89lotus which is same year and model as mine. He thankfully has a interior shot of his panel which also has turbo esprit.
So fingers crossed. It seems that SE's and 90 onwards have differnt panels. But hey well worth asking. You would think Lotus had consistancy in putting right decals on correct model cars eh?

89's in the USA was a change over year in the USA.
First half of 89 w/Delco injection non intercooler and 89 1/2 with intercooler or SE model.

Small difference between the 89 1/2 and 90 SE was the instrument pod cover is removable with pod in place and in pre 90 models one has to remove the whole pod to get access to the gauges. Also the memcal is not re-programable in the pre 90 model SE from what I have heard and to upgrade programing you must replace it.

So around that time era was a time of some change.
Chassis, rear brakes, transmission, EFI/management, and few other things.

Kylie, does your car have the Citroen or Renault tranny? I guess an easier question in do you have inboard or outboard rear brakes?

Carbs or Bosch injection?
I'm sure I asked before, may be it is old age settling in as I have forgotten.

Kylie & Calvin,

You've got me wondering now, my car is a carbed turbo but manufactured in Sept90, did they make carbed turbos this late? I have the later gearbox, is that Renault? (my service guy told me this). Also I have the rear valance which at first I thought it only appeared on NA's. When I went throught the parts list with PNM Engineering, the slattered rear valance reappeared again during 1990 only on the turbos as a standard part, how strange is that!!!
Now I have the mesh valance awaiting paint and I will fit.
I think many people dread the thought of having an Esprit made up from two write-offs!!

Cheers,

Your car is a bit unusal, but that maybe because I am used to USA Fed regulation cars.

Your rear valence is consistant with the pinched side skirts and front. If I were looking at it driving down the road, I would say it was an 88 model with a Sport 300/S4s rear wing and not a 90. Delco EFI cars have straight side skirts and do not pinch in at mid section.

Carb models were produced for non USA markets as it did not conform to emission requirements here and only the Delco EFI equiped cars made it over here.

I do recall the SE models in the UK do look are equipped exactly like USA models except for RHD.

Your wheels? Are they OZ Magnesio? Or stamped or marked with a similar name? Don't know exactly how it is spelled. If so they are very expensive wheels.

Kylie,

I'm sure that your AC control graphic plate is stock. It was not unusual for Lotus to use remaining stock despite a model cut-off. There are several front badges for the '85 Turbo from yellow/Green, Round Black/Gold Chapman commemerative (which mine has) and both a yellow/green and black/gold commemerative stylized 'soft' logo, which is actually a Lotus petal, yet all are 'correct'. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

Kylie,
Seems like you and Superdave have the later model carb cars before they went total EFI for non USA cars.

You do have the power steering which we are all jealous of.
