Revolution 3-peice wheels....thoughts please
Discussion
Well when we refurbished the wheels a month back we were looking for the O.Z stamp perhaps on the back, as I don't often see this side and what the heck...they say Revolution. I asked questions at the last meeting I went to and seems as they though they were sold as part of a X180R kit that was available at the time, SE front bumper, rear spoiler and racing wheels. The kit I knew about but the fact that people were telling me they were OZ wheels earlier I feel peeved off.
Well doing my own research on them they are incredibly light weight with orignal black magnesium coated centres which are now powder coated silver, polished alloy rims which are the same model wheels used on the X180R's in their day so can't be too bad and worth a bit eh?

Kylie,
The Revolution wheels were offered on the 93MY SE and the 90MY X180R. The difference is that the ones on the X180R (only 20 built, all for the USA market) were real 3-piece wheels with 16inch diameters front and rear, while the ones on the SE were clones made to look like they were 3-piece when in reality they were only 1-piece. In both cases the wheels had black centers with a polished lip.
Cheers,
Karl-Franz :-)

Really..mine are 16's rear and 15's front and definately 3-peice as we were contemplating pulling it all apart but feared for the worst if we did. Just took all the bolts out. You can see the glueing lines from behind where the other two pieces meet. And the two different metals a sure sign?
How do you know what a one peice clone looks like, do the bolts still come out or replicate real ones?

Hi Kylie,
Your wheels are the either the real thing, or custom aftermarket replacements. The reproduction wheels on the '93 did not have bolts, either real or fake. The Lotus promo pics for the '93 did show three-piece wheels, but they didn't reach production that way.
Cheers,
Sanj
MMM Still would like to know if they are the real thing or not.
They came out with black plastic centre caps I guess for lightness with a lotus sticker in the centre. When I got the car one of the caps were missing so decided to design my own and do a complete set. Mine on left. Have still kept the plastic ones and infact made another black one from a mould I made. The billet alloy ones with elise badges look better though
