Running light switch question

OK, I hope this is an easy one for the likes of this forum. Here's the problem when I try to turn on just the running lights on my 2001 the button will not stay
in and acts like a momentary switch. Instead of staying lit the lights come on when I press the switch in and go off when I release it. So is this an indication of a bad switch or a short of some kind?
