Throttle Cable Snapped!!
Discussion
You just need to replace the inner steel cable, any cable that fits will do.
To remove the old one, disconnect at either end (depends on the model) and pull out the old one.
To fit the new one, give it a good coat of oil, not grease (it's too thick), ease it into the outer sleave & reconnect.
Cheers

Mark,
It may be best on an '88 to replace the entire cable (sheath and cable). I recommend you get the Lotus cable from JAE or such.
The reason for this is the proprietary end on the throttle pedal end which makes installation easier and the fact that this is a pre-stretched cable, keeping chronic adjuastment to a minimum.
It's easy to thread through. Tie the end of some twine to the existing cable/sheath, pull it back through to the cockpit. Cut twine nd attach it to the new cable and pull it back through to the engine compartment. Good Luck! Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

Would never recommend this for your Esprit, but it made me recall a hilarious story:
My friend had an old beat up BMW, and the throttle cable snapped one day. Until he could replace it, my buddy (Ed) took some fishing wire, tied it to the engine throttle, and threaded it under the hood to the driver side window. For a couple weeks or so we drove around with his arm hanging out the window applying gas by pulling on the string!
Mind you, this is in uber-wealthy Monterrey California. We pull up to a stop light, and some ultra-hot chick pulls up in a nice new car. I'm sinking down in the seat, not wanting to be seen in Ed's monstrocity. Ed looks over and says, "I think she wants to race." He gives the cord a couple quick tugs to rev up the engine. I'm mortified. The light turns green, she starts off, and Ed 'floors it' by giving the cord a healthy tug. The wire snaps, and the engine stalls. It was hilarious.
