Hi I'm going to replace new door frames on my Esprit turbo 88 and my question is how to swap the quarter glass from old frames to new ?
According to the Service Notes they used Thermo Electric Sealer and it's not possible to removed the glass without breakgin it ?
Does any try to swap the glass without breaing them ?
If yes how to do it ?

In answer to your questions. I have just had my local Lotus bodyshop in South East England replace the inevitable rusty frames. They managed to do it without breaking the glass. I don't know how they did it. I'll ask when I return in two weeks to get the 3 quarter windows re-sealed......just one thing after another.....

Hi there..sorry to butt in on your post but i was just reading the reply above and i notice you mention your local Lotus Service Place in South East England. I'm picking up my 1st Esprit this week (87 S3) and wondered where this service place is?

I live in Essex

Many thanks

Yes you can remove your rear quarter glass. You need to make up a DIY tool with a guitar string and a piece of wood. This is to make a cheese slicer type tool.
Calvin Hamanda is doing this shortly and may have some pics or tips.
I ask the exact same question some months ago. Still I haven't managed to do mine yet, lazy hey.
If you're the guinee pig, can I be hard faced and ask you to take some pics please? Pretty please?

Cheers,

Dave Walters

I'm assuming you are referring to the front qtr lights as these are the ones held in the metal frames together with the side windows?

The auto glass people have many tools that heat up. A hot knife is one tool I have seen them use to cut away hat bonded sealants.
