Fun Lotus questions. and update
Discussion
Well , not really all that fun.......Im replacing the carpet for my 90 esprit......I am switching from beige to black.....Tingle Lotus quoted me at 275 for some cheaper stuff and 375 for a more dense...and of course more for wilton wool and silk..........What kind of carpet was put from the factory?
Also im looking for some various things.....the plastic between the doors and rear windows is cracked on both sides...what is this trim piece called and how much do you think it is?
Also for those that remember, i had the clutch and gas tank disaster...well im happy to report that i have gotten a whole new clutch kit in there and the old tank was taken out re welded and re sealed as well re painted. I cant wait to get it back.
Calvin i hope you are doing well.
Talk to you guys later.

Hey Adam,
How are you doing? Wondered about you and the car. I was almost afraid you got discouraged and sold the car. Well the light is at the end of the tunnel.
If no one answers about the trim pieces I'll post the part numbers for the window trim pieces. My parts book is at home so I have to look it up once I get home.
Have not been posting much as the ranks of people are finally filling in. There was a time a while back when I used to answer a lot, but diversity is good and advice from different people is always better. A good way to learn by looking at different ways people do things. I knew people would one day start showing up and offering advice once there was more posts on the forum. Much more informative than which wax to use on ones car. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but one can only take so much of that sort of thing. I sort of have been enjoying just reading the forum.
Looks like you are going to get your car in top shape soon. That's good. Enjoy yourself. Car season is in full swing here in MN. Been driving for about a month and I already had a few playfull road races. A sport bike being the hardest one, still able to out accelerate him and pull away going uphill on a twisty at lower speeds. The others, an Audi TT, and M100 on the hwy were pretty mild using only 75% potential of the car.
My Moto-Concept BOV got stuck and stopped working. Had to take it apart and clean it. Took me while to figure out how to take it apart as it looked like it was one piece. It was machined so well it hid the assembly joint inbetween the ribbed surface. I was at wits end, I growled and twisted it real hard, to my suprise it twisted apart and started to unscrew. So after I took it apart I looked inside and it was a bit dirty, the piston was stuck and even when pressed hard it moved real slow. I took some solvent and scrubbed the piston and cyl. clean. After assembly the piston moved very smoothly in the dry cyl. If anyone takes a BOV apart just be carefull as the spring is loaded and parts may come shooting out.
After cleaning, a few turns of the nut to readjust the BOV it is working like new.
Next items on the to do list:
Adjust my valves.
I will re seal my rear quarter windows so my tanks will not rust, as they are starting to show signs of failure. The crinkle look is almost all the way through the seals.
I am waiting on my new SS braided brake lines from Sanj. Just sent the check for them several days ago when they get here I will put them in.
New rear brake pads when doing the hoses.
I think I am getting a pair of drilled Brembo rotors that is a direct replacement for the stock ones. Can't afford new calipers so will just use the stock ones for now. Plus not changing the calipers means that I can keep using my stock wheels.
My muffler is making a rattle noise. Sounds like a loose baffle. It's not bad but the sound irritates me. I will probably cut open the muffler with a torch and either remove or reweld the baffle, then reweld the muffler shut. Sure beats spending 500 on a new muffler when money is tight.
Any money left over and I maybe will get a new chip. Have to think about the chip as I am still on my original clutch at 32K miles. The high torque chip will more than likely accelerate the clutch wear. I will have to think about this one.
I hope this driving season goes better for you than the last one. The car is a lot of fun when it's working well. I suppose I just got lucky that I ended up with one has been pretty much trouble free. Although it has only been off the road 3 days in the last 3 years, it's time will come when something will require it to be idle for a week or more.
Regards,
Calvin

Ah yes... carpeting. I need to post a finding that I did of the carpet quality from SJ Sportscars vs. PBC / Claudius. I'll post pics of the two samples that I have. I had a few of the Chicago Lotus Corps members look at the carpet samples. Bottom line is that they all agreed that the SJ carpet was a better carpet.
As far as the cracked trim strip... I believe the part number is A082U5741K . Again, one of the Lotus Corps members is redoing a batch of those in Carbon Fiber. Should be kewl...

That's very interesting about SJ carpets. I bought mine from SJ in January this year and thought the the density could have been better. The carpet you could see the backing if you bent it back. I really should have gone to my local guy who does retrimming. The samples he showed me would have reduced my legroom by an inch! (25mm to us continental guys).
The quality of the 13 seperate pieces, yes 13!! were very well cut and edge with magnolia piping. I found out after receiving the carpet, that my interior is actually called biscuit, so don't be confused. Check out my pics on http://community.webshots.com/album/61560612qXxCQx

Yes, I agree. A couple guys brought up that point as well. But they said overall, the thread count was higher. I'll get pics on my site in a day or so...
