This isn't really a Lotus question, but I post it here because I know that a lot of you chaps have refurbished your rims.

I am restoring a set of BBS split rim wheels from a 1995 BMW coupe. They are a two piece wheel. The centre piece is bolted to a flange on the rim with 34 splined studs.

Any suggestions for the correct torque for the nuts?

I have had the rims mirror polished, the centres powder coated and the studs re-plated. All I need to do is reassemble them, but I do not know the correct torque settings.

Your assistance is welcome.

The painting, plating and polishing is absolutely first class. I am doing these wheels as an experiment before tackling (one piece) wheels on the Esprit.

I'll try and post some pictures when the job is done to show how they turn out.

Thanks,

Pat

Hi Pat, yeah I have 3-peice Revolutions. Took all the bolts out to scrub up and came up nice. We looked around on the net for ideal torque settings with varied results. Some recommend as high as 50 pounds which we found was a load of rot for my rims and found out the hard way as we broke one off giving it too much - not even close to 40p. We found 25 pounds was more than ample and also discussed this with several engineers. You will find out when using the wrench how hard it actually is to get to 25pounds thinking that these are going to break off any second. So you need a little care. Bear in mind your rims, bolts may differ from mine so you should allow +/- a few pounds either way.

Cheers
Kylie

PS Thankfully we were able to source another bolt.
