A bit of bad news I'm afraid. firstly my existing locking wheels nut adapter has sheared off inside. With only one wheel on (that one has the existing locking nut back on) Iam completely knackered.
The other problem is that the tyres on the rears appear to be too low a profile. The tyres currently are 245/40/17, I think they should be 245/45/17 having checked on this site. This makes the rear arch look a bit empty.
The final problem is the rear wheel doesn't sit as far out as my old ones. My old one really made the rear end look wide. The new ones sit in a bit, so Iam unsure at the moment.I need some advise how to get the old locking nuts off seeing as I don't know where they came from. The PO had them put on when he bought the alloys. I've contacted him but he says that there was only one adaptor. The box has two spaces for the adaptors! So no joy there.
What should I do?

Cheers,

The rear tires should be 245/45/17. Are you saying your locking wheel nut remover is broke? If so, any tire/wheel place should be able to remove the locking nut presently on the car. Shouldn't be a problem for the experts.

Right i've measured the distance between the outside of the rear tyres. It is 1800-1805mm or 70.75-71". Could anyone out there do me a favour and measure the width to outsisde of tyres on their GT3 or S4 please?
Also taken a few pics.

Dave - I'm sending you some pics directly to you as they're big so don't want to clog up everyone's email.
I feel really bad for the problems you're having - I'll call you over the weekend and see what's up - I'll also call which dealer put the tyres on the car originally.

Doors,

thanks for the pics. Listen don't feel bad about the wheels, they're great. It's my crappy car that's the problem. i've got adrian Mugridge on the case measure up the track width at the rear end. I think it's the old after market alloys sticking out about 20mm further, so it could actually be the correct position now. I think once your used to something , change is a little hard to accept. Iam going to sleep on it tonight on whether to get some spacers from Demon Tweeks.

And once again, thanks for the alloys. Iam really grateful, honest.

Cheers,

Thanks for the kind words. Iam very red faced this evening. After all the hassle i've had today with the locking wheel bolt adaptor sheering, I went ot my local motorstore Halfords and they sell them there!!
I couldn't believe it. The locking nuts were a German Make called McGard and I rang them this morning. They said it would take a week to send a new one. They didn't tell me that my local motor store sold them. They are only half a mile from my house.
Well sometimes we have to learn the hard way.

cheers,

Hi Dave
Regarding your wheelarch-filling conundrum, I sincerely believe the wheels are spot on width wise. Can't comment on the tire choice (a size up sounds right), but believe me I have pored over shots of the S4/GT3 on an almost daily basis for the last 11 years and as standard they do look a smidgin undersized, but still infinitely preferable to V8 steamrollers. I can only assume that your previous wheels were not strictly correct in their dimensions, a fault not uncommon in aftermarket items.
Any road up, your worrying over nowt, bask in the glory, they look fan-bloody-tastic.

Thanks for that, I think I needed a bit of geeing up. Anyways, why aren't you out tonight on a Friday? Are you a sad case like me? My excuse this time is the missus is out on the town and Iam in looking after the little one.
As for the wheels, may nip down to Demon Tweeks next week and buy a spacer kit. Money's getting really tight. Iam just spending money on the car without thinking about it. Now it's time to slow down a bit and enjoy. I just need to sort my wastegate out, it's a bit stuck.

Cheers,

Dave Walters
ps. Iam more pleased with my rear valance I fitted 2 days ago. Should have left the wheel fitting for a couple of weeks to get more satifaction with the valance.

Haven't got out much since my kids arrived 6/7 years ago. Many, many problems (sleep clinics, speech therapists, nutritionalists, etc). Just about getting my life back now, trouble is I've forgotten what to do with it! My imminent GT3 purchase is the first step...........
The back valance looks good, all you need now are S4 sills and front bumper and you won't need to trade up!

Thanks, I don't really want to spend too much on this car, because it's money down the drain if Iam going to trade up. However if I keep it, it doesn't matter how much money I blow, within reason.
I don't envy your past problems and it sounds like you deserve it. How are you getting on with your purchase?
Hope you get your dream soon, it's worth it.
As I said so many times on this forum, life's not a rehersal, you only get one chance and you could be dead tommorrow. So enjoy while it lasts!
Keep me posted on your purchase.

Cheers,

Dave Walters
