I have Yahoo messenger under cnh1990. I do not use messenger at work where many of my posts comes from during the day. I do have a DSL line at work and my computer is active on PH for most of the day.
I do not have many mods on my car but I will list what has been done.
I bought my car with just 17K miles on it. Many asked how did I know for sure the mileage was correct?
The drivers seat did not have the classic wear mark from getting in/out of the car. The pedal rubbers were almost new indicating they were not used a lot. The gear shift/steering wheel as in new shape. Original tires with 1/2-1/3 life remaining on the front tires and rears marginal but original that were discontinued many, many years ago. A DMV mileage history from 1990-1998 when the EPA inspections were halted.
So here is what I or the previous owner have had done to the car.
Prior to picking up the car it was inspected and the previous owner took the car to have an oil change, tune up, new coolant, new coolant hoses, it's timing and accessory belts changed a few days before I arrived in Florida to drive it home.
When I got there the car was in great shape. Only the rear tires were worn a bit, after my very long test drive the hardened rear rubber were worn down to almost to the wear bars. I mentioned this to the seller. According to FL law one can not sell a car with bad tires(I did not know this at that time I mentioned it). The seller bought me a set of rears. He also just replaced the battery, Alpine head unit/speakers and gave me the original parts. He also modified the side marker lights to the flush style after one or more fell off. It is also suspected that the original PO had installed the S4s MKV chip as it hold the 1 bar boost. This is where the seller and I parted company.
When I got home the I replaced the fuel tank vent hoses. $30
At the end of the first driving season the clutch master went out and started to leak. I rebuilt the master and slave, at this time I installed the SS hose. Total was about $150 including the SS hose, fluid, rebuild kits and shipping.
My speedo a month later grenaded when my movement froze and sheared the worm gear in the speedo. I had to have it rebuilt, it was about $200 because when removing it I dropped the speedo breaking the glass. (I hate when I do stupid things like that)
I repaired the heater controls which I found were not working. I guess in FL the heater was not a big priority. The flap actuator needed to be replaced.
$35
Chargecooler pump rebuild kit $45
New Dunlop SP9000 front tires $210 for the pair.
Lotus centers and aircaps as a gift from my family.
During the start of the 2nd driving season the alternator died and I had the alternator rebuilt for $40.
New locking aircaps to replace the ones that were stolen by kids. $35 with shipping
During this season I did all of the fun stuff.
I did aquire one of the rare Saratoga smoked roof panels that does not require a gasket change.
A Moto-Concepts BOV. $160
New air horns and compressor. $20
Mintex race pads for the fronts $80
Calipers painted body color at this time. $5
New pair of OEM Hella DE fog lights that were chipped by rocks. I think the pair were about $120.
I wet sanded the scratches and nicks and buffed it with fine cut.
Many thanks to Dan Curry who showed me how to do this. To this day it still makes me cringe when I put sandpaper to the car finish only to have the dull look shine up with the buffer. $80 for the paper, finecut, and buffer.
This month Sanj just sent me SS brake hoses that are just direct replacement with the OEM hoses. On it's way are the Brembo cross drilled Toyota rotors that just bolt in the front and my Mintex rear pads. This weekend Dave Cammack has just shown me the new prototype rear adjustable suspension links for the Esprit Eagle chassis that will be in production soon at an affordable cost.
The car is nearly stock. Except for small items prefer to keep it that way. I just like repair things, work on my car and cars of others. It's a hobby. The Esprit is very quick if everything is as it is as it left the factory. Walt has done more mods than me. Sanj's car is very quick and has tastefully done mods.
The Esprit experience has been a good one for me.
Lucky I guess.
