Factory alarm system spec's for a 94 S4

Hello all,
Can anyone explain what the factory alarm/disabler does and how it works? I have always had high end alarms in my vehicle, but I don't want to make any un-needed changes if the factory system is good enough. Also, is it made by a known alarm manufacturer or is it OEM?
