Hi
first: Is just discovered this site and I think it's really great. Thanks to all people working on it.

Since a few months I'm lookiung for a Giugiaro 2.2 Turbo Esprit and yes I already red the article about the maintenance Since I had the chance to drive in one I know it's not only the look of it
I think they were built 1981-87. Are there big differences between the earlier and the later models ? Is a much higher price for a 87' Turbo Esprit justified if the condition is nearly the same to an older one ?

Here are several offers. Please give me you opinion about the prices. ( Euro Dollar 1:1 changes every day but it's nearly the same )

1) Lotus Esprit Turbo HC
12/87, 89.000km (55600 miles),black, grey
leather, excellent condition, no crashes
EUR 19.940 (car trader)

2) Lotus Esprit Turbo 2.2
06/84, 57.000 miles, Bond red (your eyes only),
beige leather, excellent condition, no crashes
EUR 10.500
(privat)

3) Lotus Esprit
04/84, 100.000km (62.000 miles), black, beige
leather, excellent condition, engine fully
maintained 6000 miles ago.
Eur 12.500 (privat)

The first one is probably the best, but also the most expensive one. What can I pay for it, if it's condition is really like a new one ? What about the other prices ?
Thanks Hiero

You will like the HCI engine with FI better.
The pistons are much better. Early turbo engines used cast pistons which will eventually crown and deform causing engine failure unless they have been updated to forged.

Jim has more info on this eventual failure common to early turbo engines.

Hi,

For a 'G' model, '86 onward is the most advanced design as Calvin has already expressed. I own an 85MY Turbo and personally much prefer carburetters to Bosche K-Jetronic injection, but that is mostly personal preference. The carbs work great and are easier and cheaper to maintain than the Bosche system. But, they require more frequent adjustment to keep them in top running condition. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

Hi,

Don't get hung up on an '87 exclusively. There are a lot of nice '86's as well and they are identical to the '87 in every respect. For that matter so is an '88 except for the introduction of the Stevens body, but they are identical under the skin.

A nice '86 is better than a so-so '87 and $1000-$2000 less expensive. Expect to pay about $10,000-$13,000 for a well sorted '86. Happy Motoring!..Jim'85TE
