Lotus Esprit are tough

I realized how tough the body of the esprit really is... look down the side of any ferrari with 20k miles or more and it has dings... not the lotus these cars are tough on the outside!!!

Do not test it by parking in supermarket parking lots. I never have by the way.

i actually think it would be very tough to "ding" or dent these cars. prolly would shatter befor it dented.

The third day I owned my '89 non-SE I pulled out a driveway and a bicyclist going the wrong way on a one street at 15 mph T-boned me. The next thing I say was a body flying over my hood. The wheel well had only a scratch where the rear axle of the bike hit. The front wheel of the bike was bent in two.

Must be the Kevlar fiber I read that the body is made with. Yes?

In the original brochure for my 88 Esprit it said that the body is so strong a hammer would bounce. Not recommended but interesting!

When I had my unfortunate incident with the foot long piece of rebar, on the road, at 50mph... said piece of rebar punctured my tire and put a one inch diameter hole in my wheel, but the only thing that happend to the body was a minor scratch on the fender flare and a small scratch on the interior wheel well (since fixed by the good folks at Dimitt).

They are pretty sturdy cars...

1) If you're going to park you're Ferrai in a lot then you deserve dings. I wish people respected the property of others, but they dont.

2) An Esprit body may not rust or dent, but damn that paint sure is ugly. (Though, I happen to prefer wavy paint to wavy steal)
