Today I called AAA to get my car insured, after going through all the usual policy information/verification the gal asked me for the VIN#. She couldn't find it, then she asked, what kind of car is it? I told her is a Lotus Esprit. A lotus?, is that a car? Yes, it's sports car made in the UK. She then said she needed to put me on hold to check on another book. After two minutes she came back and told me that she needed to enter the information manually because it's a special limitted production vehicle. To make a long story short, I could not add it today because I need to register it with CA DMV first, But the DMV instructions say you must have it insured and smogged before you can register it, but to be able to smogg it it must be registered first. The good thing that wit AAA I am automatically insured for 30 days. I hope that's ok with DMV. I am ralizing that owning an exotic is a totally different world. Can anybody in California owning an Esprit give me any hints on getting insurance? I don't know if AAA is the best choice. I am thinking of taking all my cars and my house to another insurance company. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Geico (depending upon your driving record). Only question I got from them was - "OK, what would you estimate the replacement cost to be?" - I answered, we moved on...

Be aware that Geico spends lots and lots of money to give your local discretionary tax authority (a.k.a police) radar guns and other toys with which to take more of your hard-earned away...
