Hi,
There are somewhat mixed reviews about Sportscarworld, much more so than any of the other suppliers in my opinion.
A good bit of advise is to shop around for any large parts or orders, but it's nice to develop a relationship with 1 or 2 suppliers who can offer techinical advise along with providing the parts. One caveat, due to the inability and poor business practice of maintaining vast parts inventories, expect that many parts will be backordered or delayed. It's not like owning a Mustang or Camaro where every parts is just a phone call away. This is perhaps the most frustrating part of doing your own maintenance, but you do get used to it. Another part of the total ownership experience. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE
Jeff and Jay at JAE and Steve at SJS excel in this area. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

Tingle's Lotus Center is one of the best and lowest priced part dealers around. Don doesn't have a fancy web page but his experience is fantastic. In the book 'The complete history of the Lotus Esprit' Don Tingle is listed as a "Lotus Specialist".
You can find his site under Parts on Esprit Fact File.

Look under the electrical tab on this web page for a kit to rebuild you H/L motor.

I ordered a rebuild kit for my '84 Fiero and the instructions were decent. Best of all the motor works like it should now.

Hi,
The answer to your question is no. The engine in the '89 Esprit, is an in-house Lotus design, the Lotus 910 engine. It has no association with the engine in the Fiero whatsoever.
It is a 2.2 Ltr. in-line 4 cylinder with a Garrett/Airesearch T-3 Turbocharger, twin overhead cams and 4 valves/cylinder. It is fuel injected using either Bosche K-Jetronic Fuel injection (early) or the GM Engine Management system (late) depending upon which '89 you buy. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

Simon,
Not really. Lotus did virtually all the development work on the Fiero for GM, even though GM did not own Lotus at the time of the Fiero's release...'85?
I do agree with you on the basis that it's a pretty fundamental question for someone who professes to have been researching the Esprit for several months though. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE
I guess this is way off topic but, first model year was '84. According to Motor Trend, the front suspension was from a Chevette with slight modifications and the rear was the front suspension of a Chevy Citation. Power was the old Iron Duke 2.5 liter. Mine went 190,000 before it started leaking coolant from the headgasket.
Perhaps Lotus provided the tooling for the machining and tapping of the frame. One machine prepared the mounting points for all of the body panels in a single step.
Wish GM hadn't been so cheap as to merely move the engine rearwards without turning it around. Spark plug changes would be easier if the engine were turned around.
