Esprit V8's engine check light
Discussion
Hi,
I have a 2000 Esprit V8. It now has about 1400 miles. Since the last time I filled it up with a cheaper gas brand even with 93 R+M/2 octane method, since then the engine light came on and stayed lit instead of flashing.
Woould anybody knows what was the cause ? is it gas or is it something else ? Anybody's car has this light stays lit ?
The owner's manual says " stayslit " is not as critical as " flashing ."
Regards, Khoa.

The V8 will turn on it's check engine if you use certain brands of gasoline, ie, Super Shell Unleaded will give me a check engine light religiously. I suspect other (brands) will do the same. I have made the decision to stick with Chevron Supreme and have not had the problem since. As for the light.... get some good gas next time around and the light should turn itself off after several starts.
If you know anyone who has a OBD-II scan tool (pretty much every shop that works on cars these days) they can read the code and reset it. In every case to date (yea, I've had a few) it has been a P0171 code which is "engine too lean bank 1". I've also gotten them by running the tanks very low and hitting some sharp corners pretty fast which in some cases will let an air bubble in the line.

Khoa - the light will re-set automatically after three cold start cycles. If it does not extinguish after this then you will need to read the fault code, as kevin says. Don't worry too much, i've had these before, could be something as simple as a sticky wastegate which is common where a car has been unused on a dealer forecourt for some time..
