Hi simon here Ky's man

She wangled me into spending the long weekend working on her car instead of my hot rod I made her help so she got her hands dirty

Replaced the oil and filter it was very dirty possibly a hang over from her racing it
What great thinker decided to put the filter there ? especially as it is remoted why not remote it to somewhere sensible? Next time I change it I think I will see if I can move it to somewhere easier to get too.
Also changed the air filter and fitted her new washer bottle which she bought off the net from S&J

Anyway it got interesting when I tackled the red hose

We got a kit that came with the washer bottle no instructions of course!

I found it absolutly impossible to get the last grommet back in place the one buried down the back of the engine bay
Painted the slave cylinder while I had it out
Then it got really tricky bled the cylinder but still very spongy had to get the front higher than the rear to get it to bleed properly
Then the tech bit I had to completly adjust the clutch to its opposite extreme and so did our other esprit friend and I can't think for the life of me think why that would be the case ??
Still to roadtest as it got dark

Of course the captive nuts in the floor all long ago disintergrated so I got some threaded plates out of a Toyota door and pop riveted them into the floor and it bolted back together properly

That clutch has me bugger though !

I always bleed the slave when it is off the car, as in hanging off the hose near the grage floor. So I suppose that is the same thing as jacking the car up. Never really had a problem with a clutch adjustment as the factory sets a fixed specification for the Renault tranny.

Hi we were just about to back the car out to take for test run and the clutch grabs quite early. ie foot released <1 inch off the floor. What is the correct distance does anyone know?? We may have to adjust it again.
Any help would be much appreciated.

If it makes you feel better I couldn't get that last grommet back either and I tried REALLY hard.

In the end I simply left the grommet out and used some rubber sheath to stop the hose rubbing.

I must have been lucky, because bleeding it was no problem, even with the slave cylinder fitted on the car.

I used a self bleed kit and had the car perfectly level on four axle stands.

I haven't used the car yet, because I thought it would be a good idea to change the crossgate cable and re-bush the rod linkage whilst I was under there.

Changing the crossgate cable also has its own grommet challenge.....

Yay....Got in the car pumped the clutch quite quickly for a few minutes, this got rid of some small bubbles still trapped in there. The clutch feels normal again, it grabs about an inch off the floor. We are yet to hear back from our Lotus mechanic what is the correct setting for this.
Well taking the car round the block for a quick run was a bliss. I don't have to rev the engine when changing down to second anymore. (this because of shorting the throw of gear changes) great mod too btw. Tom when I get a chance will take it for long drive and see what happens when everything is piping hot down there.

Calvin so there is no fancy required setting, just as is?

Just a adjustment nut that is set to a specified length at the slave and the tranny fork.

I don't recall the exact length that it should be set to. It's in my manual at home. I no one blurts it out by then I'll post when I get home from work.

The only other think that could have happened is if someone used the wrong hole on the pedal itself to hook up the master. But no one would do that, I take it back I have seen it done once.
