Well Chaps ,
The prototype is fitted and looks great.

There are pics here in my Yahoo photos area:
http://uk.photos.yahoo.com/bc/zapmam/lst?
&.dir=/My+Photos&.src=ph&.view=t

Have a look.
It's very easy to fit, no drilling or damage to existing leather
trim - so it's no problem to revert to the original condition of the
car.
There will be further details and an install guide soon on
www.LotusEspritWorld.com

For the real die hards, the dummy button headed cap screws fit into
M6 threaded holes, so if you absolutely had to drill holes and fit
long screws and nyloc nuts you could - but you'd have to drill
through the leather gaiter and we all know how difficult it is to get
a match for original leather, if you had to replace it. I've kept the
fitting options open.

The polished alloy gearshift surround will go on sale at £85 + £8 P+P
in the UK. That's £50 less than the Lotus one. Anyone overseas should
email me for shipping costs to their country.

Constructive feedback always gratefully received.

Looks good. Do you, or anybody else, make a gated shifter like in a Ferrari or Lamborghini? I saw a picture of one, but never found out any info on it.

Skerd,
I've seen gated surrounds like you mention for the Elise, but they're quite small. I don't know of anyone who makes them for the Esprit. As far as I know, I'm the only one, apart from Lotus, who make a polished alloy gearshift surround for the Stephens Esprit. Mine if £50 cheaper and a direct fit with no modification
(drilling or cutting holes in the leather) necessary to the centre console trim panel - so reverting to the original condition is no problem at all.

Hi Alan the G/S surround looks very very nice. How do you get it to sit so low in the leather without using screws?
The other thing was wondering about your sport 350 gear shifter, what sort of lotus decal did you stick on top? Or did it come with it. I would like to do the same.

It looks very nice, but it won't match anything in my interior unfortunately.
However, if you would make the same thing, but instead of an aluminium finish, in a nice rosewood finish, to match my S4s's, I'd buy two off you instantly

Looks very classy! Where did the shift knob come from, I like it alot.

If anyone wants to see a Gated Shifter on an Esprit go to my site:

www.juststuff.freehosting.net and click on the Lotus Emblem to go to the Lotus page. I havent updated it in forever, but there is a pic of a Gated Esprit. Dont ask where I got it, its been so long. I think maybe from Symbolic Motors a while back.

How much does the gearknob cost Alan? Would it fit an 88 turbo?

Skerd,

A gated shifter on an Esprit would be real trouble. This is because it would further narrow the available adjustment at the crossgate to insure that a gear selector was actually selected when in the narrow plane of the gate.

I know it's been fitted, but I suspect that over time, the owner either experienced poor shifting performance or pre-mature wear to some of the tranny internals. I do agree it would look great, but I feel that any aesthetic enhancement would be more than offset by problems with functionality unless the gate spacing was such that it looked ridiculous and would be subject to all sorts of debris falling into it. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

Would it be like the one that you make - no bolts, etc? Would be interested if yes.
