Review: Michelin v Pirelli
Discussion
As some of you know, I have two euro spec S4s. Both '96. One is built 46, the other one 47. So as close to each other as possible.
I fitted the black car with Michelin Pilot Sport all around.
The yellow car got Pirelli PZero, Nero Directionale on the front and Rosso Asimetrico on the rear.
Both cars have the euro spec Futura rims - 235/45ZR17 on the front and 285/35ZR18 on the rear.
The tyres were fitted on both cars about a month ago or so.
Since the cars are basically identical, I thought it gives a perfect comparison of the tyres.
Michelin - they look great! Very quiet on the road. Phenomenally grippy in the dry and wet. Almost impossible to spin the wheels when accelerating, even in the wet. The car feels 'heavy', solid. It turns phenomenally well, although it feels that there is almost a fraction of a second of delay after you turn the steering wheel. However, I rate them as close to 10 out of 10 as possible.
Pirelli - as I described them in the past - remember when you were a kid and riding your bike and the tyres were flat? Remember how the bike felt once you pumped the tyres up? That's how the car feels on the Pirelli's. VERY sharp into turns. Noisier than the Michelin. Disperses water very good when driven through a pudle, although the rear wheels spin very easily in the wet. Overall the car feels 'nervous'.
Oh yes, also they look ugly! In my opinion anyway
Took both cars to the track last week. The Michelin blew the Pirelli out of the water. By the end of the day, I still didn't find the Michelin's limit. I found the Pirelli's limit very quickly and as such I had MUCH slower lap times with them. I was almost scared to drive the yellow car (Pirelli) 'track style' after I drove the black one (Michelin), that's how unsafe the yellow car seemed.
Overall, I regret not having Michelin on both cars.

I had PZero's on my GT3 but I've now switched to Goodyear F1/GS-A. Words cannot describe how bad the PZeros are in the wet. They are truely appauling !! The car was twitchy and felt like it was about to slide of the road. I used to think that as long as you had a major brand like Perelli, Goodyear, Bridgestone or whatever they would be about the same, but the PZero's are just plain scarey. If anyone has them fitted my advise is to take them off right now. I have, however, found a use for them, I have them at the end of my garage to stop me hitting the wall !!
