fuel smell under accerlation
Discussion
Hi,
It could be a few different things as you are only getting a fuel smell during hard acceleration. First (as Matt suggested) check your fuel and vent lines for cracks and/or deteriorated rubber ends.
On the V8, the secondary injectors spray fuel directly into the plenum, so if you have any leaks, you could get fuel smell. I doubt you have a fuel system leak as you "should" experience fuel smell all the time as the system is always pressurized. Also note that during hard acceleration, your manifold is at boost, not vacuum. There is a non-return valve for the charcoal canister. If this goes bad, you could possibly blow manifold pressure into the canister and push fuel fumes out through the close valve/filter. So you should probably check the valves for the charcoal canister as well.
Not sure if this will help you isolate the problem, but gives you a few possibilities to check. Good luck.

You should be able to follow the plumbing from the motor.... the manual states that the tubing used for the charcoal canister is translucent... but on my 2000, there is NO translucent tubing anywhere and the engine compartment does not quite match the diagram shown in the manual. But in any case, from the front of the motor there should a line (mine is black) which comes out from under the plenum (does not attach to the plenum) which goes to an electro-valve (which is not in the manual) and located on the front wall in the motor compartment. From there, it goes to the left (standing behind the car) and attaches to small one-way valve (a little over an inch in diameter) and continues to the left to a small test port and then the tubing goes into the left body section where the canister, power steering resevoir, etc. are. Hope this helps....
