Lift hatch. Pull up boot floor carpet.

Remove large rubber bung and, hey presto, the Gearbox plug.

Don't forget to remove the level plug, which is on the LH side of the box and is accessed from under the car.

There may be a couple of plugs on this side of the box if you have a late car, so make sure you get the right one. It is the lower of the two according to the Service Manual.

In any event, it should have a dab of yellow paint on it...... but don't expect it to be visible after 18 years.

Hth

Brett,

If it's been some time, or you don't know what fluid is currently in it, you should drain and replace it all. The drain plug is beneath the case and the fill is on top, as Pat said, marked w/ yellow paint.

Be sure to also open the side fluid level plug, this will indicast the system is full, when fluid starts to run out the openong. But, be sure you are on level ground and that you wait five minutes after fluid first comes out the level indicator plug as it takes some time for the fluid to fill and level in the rear 5th gear housing as the only access for fluid to fill this area is through the bearing. If you merely fill 'til the fluid first comes out of the level plug opening, you will underfill the system. After waiting five minutes, add more fluid until the fluid flows from the level port once again. you will probably get another .25 ltr. in before it does. Many Esprit owners are actually driving with their gearboxes only partially full and are unaware of it. Total capacity of the citroen C-35 gearbox is 2.25 Litres. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE
