Well, my speedo just bit the dust. I was able to remove it amd it is obvious that the internals need repairing. I have spoken to a VDO approved repair shop and will probably send it off next week when I put my S4 in storage again for about 6 months. In the mean time, does anyone know of a speedo that will work in its place? If it doesnt match, its no problem, but I just want to have something to watch my speed. Also, I would consider a complete guage swap for some white face guages. Does anyone have any idea if the Esprit guages have some strange configurations that won't work with say the top of the line current VDO's?
Thanks

I had the VDO speedo in my S4s repaired by

Steve commented that these are the cheapest, crapiest instruments ever fitted to a Lotus & as they're no longer made & no other speedo will work because it's electrically driven make sure it was well insured before I sent it off to them.

From a bike engined Westfield.
Nip down to your local bicycle shop and get a little battery powered one (cost around £10 for a good one).
It will need a magnet gluing to the inner wheel rim the sender to a bit of suspension and sender cable threading to onto the little screen on the dash that’s about the size of a watch face.
Bingo you have a Speedo and in car computer that is good for SVA and more importantley a MOT.
The cable is tiny so can be threaded through most things. Only warnings are you will need to push the car up and down to calibrate it, and however tempting don’t attach the sender to the brake caliper it will melt it.
