Hi everyone,
I've been wanting a Esprit for about fifteen years Now, and I finally bought a Black/Dark Grey 90'SE with 28,000 miles back in August 2002, But the only problem was I had no time to spend with the car till now, due to remodeling the house and not wanting to get involved with the car till the house was completed. So I got my Esprit fix by reading this forum almost everyday along with some other Espit sites. So now I been getting ready to spend some time with my dream car, I've been stocking up on my tools, buying stuff for the car like exterior trim pieces, filters, some nice Stainless steel sill plates from Alan, and I even bought a four post lift so I can get under the car and do what ever needs to be done, as you can tell I'm very excited about my Esprit, but I bought this car to get it back to show room condition, and I thought to keep it in original Stock condition and that way it would hopefully keep a good resale value and maybe sell faster if I ever wanted to upgrade to a newer one which I would like to do. It seems to me from what I read on the forum is that a lot people buy Esprits and do some performance modifications to the car and take them to the track sometimes! Do we lose value on these cars by not keeping them original? Did we buy these cars to race around in them, from what it sounds like, or to admire the car for what it is? I personally love this car just the way it is! But again, I have seen a lot of modifications I would like to do to the car just because it looks better, Like some crossed drilled rotors and Blembo calipers or find some 95' wheels to replace the stock wheels or even a blow off valve, just because it suppose to be better for the turbo. I don't know!! I guess everyone is different about his or her car. Well I plan on doing most if not all the work my self, so I'm sure I will have some questions down the road, I hope I can find my answers here. Thanks to everyone for their help in the past and into the future.

It will not lose any value if the mods are not outlandish. I would not go about swapping an engine, cutting the body, installing roll cages, big flares on the wheels wells or mods that change the external appearences. All of us have seen the nasty results of someone making over a 88 into a V8 look-a-like.

A lot of people do not really know what is stock unless that person is one of us. Many of the people do appreciate mods as a bonus as long as they are done well and very well thought out.

A tracked car? Depends on what you mean. I track my car once in blue moon. I don't think I drive it any harder on the track than I do on the road(maybe a bit harder). I just use the track experience to use the whole width of the road surface instead of staying in my own lane going around the curve as on public roads. Paying a little for the privillege of having a clear road way is good. My use of the Esprit on the track is limited to having fun and playing, it is not to beat up the car to get the FTD on the track and break something to get a $20 trophy. Those days are over for me.

I know many people who do worse to their cars by the way they drive on the street.

Just take care of car before and after the track events and you will be fine. Have fun with the car.

As far as the mods and re-sell value goes, my first year of ownership I did nothing to upgrade the car.

Yet the depreciation in its value was nothing short of astonishing.

So, couple that with the fact I love this car and have no aims on selling it, I've plunged into the mod pool.

It's your car, do what you want.

Don't be concerned with the next owner until you feel you want to sell it.

Good one Bill, hope you are pleased with what you have.
My car has high miles and am not too worried if I re-sell it again for peanuts. But I too love the car for what it is and making it personalised to me. So am keeping it for a while. I have changed a few small things, but have kept all the little parts off the car that I have upgraded. So I can pass on in the future. So don't throw anything away. I have tracked the car, purely to see its potential, and plan on tracking it in the future, not competitively but just fun club days out. Enjoy your car.
Cheers
