Metric would be good, maybe they will even buy you a Kricket. A nice floor jack and some stands.

Hi,

The ideal Lotus tool kit would contain the following:

1. A set of Metric combo wrenches sizes 6mm-21mm

2. A set of SAE combo wrenches sizes 3/16-1"

3. A set of shallow 6 pt. metric sockets sizes 6mm-
21mm

4. A set of deep 6 pt. metric sockets sizes 6mm-21mm

5. A set of shallow SAE 6 pt. sockets sizes 3/16-1"

6. A set of deep SAE sockets sizes 3/16-1"

7. A good set of screwdrivers #1, #2, #3 Straight and
Phillips.

8. A medium size ViceGrips

9. A Needlenosed ViceGrips

10. An 18" Breaker Bar

11. Set of Allen Keys sizes 6mm-10mm

12. A 16oz. Rubber Mallet

13. A set of Metric and SAE 'Stubby' combo wrenches in
the sizes listed above.

14. A digital Multitester

15. A set of Feeler Gauges

16. A kriket II belt tensioning gauge

17. A 3 ton floorjack w/ 4 3 ton jackstands

18. A set of metric 6 pt. Flarenut wrenches sizes
10mm-17mm

19. A pair of standard and needlenosed pliers

20. Strap type oil filter wrench.

Other items which would be nice to have:

1. A set of SAE and Metric 'Gearwrenches' sizes as
above.

2. A compression tester

3. Timing Strobe (pre-89 cars only)

4. An EzeBleed brake bleeder

5. Set of Picks in various shapes

6. A large heavy duty 'C' clamp

7. Set of Allen head sockets

8. Air compressor

9. Torque Wrench

10. Torque Angle Meter.

11. A set of various socket extensions

12. A set of various 'U' joint socket extensions

13. A set of 'Wobble' socket extensions

14. A Vacuum Gauge

15. A set of Snap Ring pliers

With the tools listed above, you can perform clearly 95% of all mechanical repairs on an Esprit. Start with the primary set, and add as needed. In no time, you'll have assembled a good working set of tools. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

Jim,
He said tool box, not a stand up tool chest.

I love my gear wrenches.

Gday Guys

Many thanks for the tools needed....
As per normal .. i will start off with the primary .. than as time .. opportunity arises i will endevour to gain the rest of them ....

Yes start with the TOOL BOX .... then then build up to the TOOL CHEST !!!!!!!
I guess if a cheap TOOL CHEST (empty) comes around then i can FILL IT ...that will be the "carrot"so to speak .
Again many thanks ... i will be a very good boy till xmas ..at least

I have a useful set called Metrinch.

The set fits metric or imperial. This is useful as I have 3 cars. 1 metric, 1 SAE and 1 BSW/BSF
It goes from 1/4 drive to 1/2" drive and a set of ring/open end spanners.
Both STD and deep sockets.
I first used them at work when we had a machine which rounded off the bolt heads and these were all that would undo them.
Cost of complete set $NZ450 (~150GBP)
www.metrinch-tools.com/
I also have a set of impact sockets.

my favorite tool is my 4 post lift, but the only problem is, it won't fit under the Christmas tree!!!
But you could always but the Christmas tree out in the garage!! LOL
