I just received my adapter from Andy Whittaker.
(thanks to Andy, the first one got lost in the mail so he sent me another)

The adapter has a DB9 Female plug and my computer(New Compaq Evo N610c) also has a female DB9 plug.

After digging in my box of cables I found a DB9F-DB9F nul-modem cable.
That didn't work.
So I went and bought a DB9F-DB9F straight thru cable and that doesn't work either.

What am I doing wrong?

I had the same problem, altho on an older IBM thinkpad.....I ended up using the serial port. So one end of the cable is the 25pin and the other is the male 9pin to connect into Andy's cable, works like a dream. I'm going from memory as my cables are at home and not infront of me, so i hope i got it right.
Hope this helps.

I said it wrong in my original post.
The adapter has a DB9 MALE plug and my computer(New Compaq Evo N610c) also has a MALE DB9 plug. I have tried both a modem and a nul-modem cable and neither seems to do anything.
Can anyone tell me which is the right cable.
Is the led on the circuit board supposed to flash or something?

I sourced my cable from
They do 2,3 or 5 metre cables.

www.maplin.co.uk/products/module.asp?moduleno=10894

If unsure then I know these work ok & yes, you should see the LED flashing.

Cheers
