The owners manual calls for Valvoline hp racing 20w/50, HP not available, so do I go with the Valvoline synthetic racing oil or the Valvoline VR1 racing oil and they also spec out Mobile 1 rally formula 5w/50 which is not available either, In fact mobile 1 does not even put out a 5w/50 in the mobile 1 any more. I always heard that Mobile 1 synthetic was the best way to go when it came to engine oil in any car, but which weight would I go with? What do you use?

Bill,
I use Mobile 1 15W 50 which is fine. Wouldn't recommend anything lower.
Cheers,

Bill,

The MFG recommendation is made at a point in time and is the product of many variables, not necessarily including the best product for the job. New products are introduced in the meantime and existing products are improved. The best oil widely available on the market today for your car is Mobil 1 15w/50. If you use this, you'll have more than adequate cooling and lubricating protection from your oil. Happy Motoring... Jim'85TE

Thanks guys, I will stick with mobile 1. I have a feeling that I'm not going to find the recommended tranny oil either what do you recommend?

Hi,

Much recent debate on gear oil. The most widely used and greatest improvements experienced was with the use of Redline MT-90 which is a fully synthetic lube and has friction modifiers which actually increase friction slightly over most other brands. This allows the synchros to grab more quickly, reducing delays in shifting and subesequent grinding and extending the life of the synchros. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

Royal Purple. Fully synthetic, and excellent film strength/heat handling.
