Just bought 84 turbo in the UK; I'm in the Netherlands myself; I arranged all the details for the trip to pick up the car except the transfer from Guisborough to newcastle (where the ferry is). I need to find a reliable car-transporting company for this trip; preferably with esprit experience. I've tried the yellowpages for newcastle and surrounding area; no one has even answered my e-mails! I called a few but they all said they were to busy ! Economy must be doing better in the UK than over here. The transport needs to take place sept 15th around 13:00. Any suggestions wille be greatly appreciated !

Regards,

Marc

The only people I know with Esprits in that neck of the woods is Mark Britten and Chris Sabinetinni? Sorry Chris about the bad spelling. They may be able to help you.
The only tip I can suggest is that if you use a breakdown style truck to get your vehicle on then I think there only one type that got mine on when it broke down. I tried the AA and they couldn't get my car onto their truck. In the end used Green Flag who used National Breakdown trucks. Their trucks were able to lower there suspension and the ramps were shallower. The only other way would be to use a trailer.

Cheers,

Sorry, I saw this post and couldn't think of anyone around here, never having to use this kind of service myself. My mate has just bought an old Ferrari 308, and he ended up hiring a trailer for the 500 mile return trip.
I do know he did enqiure about someone else doing it, but the cost was prohibitive. I'll ask who it was anyway.
Is there any reason he couldn't just drive it home???

Oh yes, and I'm sure my mate would have offered his services with the traler himself (he's down at Guisborough today) if someone hadn't wiped him and the trailer out on the motorway last week! Luckily the 308 was not on the back!

Cheers

Thanks so far guys,

I still haven't quite covered this part of my trip; I can't drive it (being Dutch) for insurancereasons and for the fact that I don't know the car that well and timing is essential with the ferry booked and transportation waiting in the Netherlands as the ferry arrives;
I did not think that this was going to be so difficult; In the Netherlands you can choose from a whole range of transporters that do cartransport and/or pick up broken down cars; I'm currently talking to some people who might be able to perform this service, but this deal is not closed yet.

to be continued.

Right then!
In Bishop Auckland, and from the back pages of Classic Car magazine, there are a firm of specialist transporters. Email is "geoffrey@gsclassics.co.uk", or ring 01388 720395.
Also near me the local garage operate a fleet of breakdown trucks and have the local Green Flag agency. "www.fredhenderson.co" is the email, his number is 0191 3846319.
Both companies are central enough to Guisborough and Tyne Dock not to bat an eyelid.
Good luck.

Cheers
Mark

Myself, I also live in the Netherlands, and had no problem in insuring the car in Britain for one or two days to bring it to the ferry. There is an insurance company in Nijmegen, but I do not have any information on it anymore. Driving the car yourself is probably a lot more fun, and a lot cheaper.

You might also ask www.lotusspecialist.nl whether they can provide you with assistance. They might combine the transport of your car with fetching parts and other things from Britain. You can mail me offline aswell for more advice.

Please try to find out about a daily insurer. Note that you are not allowed to drive a foreign licence plate in the Netherlands (you being a Dutch citizen, I mean.)

Good luck and lots of fun!

Yes I have finally arranged this transport; a previous owner of the car (who I had contact earlier to inquire about the state of the car when he owned it) helped me out and found a suitable company. He even drove up there with his own current Esprit to check if it would fit the trailer! I'm impressed and very thankful for what he did because time was running out !

So this weekend it's all going to happen.

can't wait !
