What's an Esprit like to run?

What year? For that amount it should be 1987 or older.

Hi Guys, just been shopping for Esprits at £15,000 Max, for a friend. Have found some tatty cars at 13-14k but in the end we held out and found an almost concourse car at 11k, fantastic!! All the cars we were looking at were the new shape ones. I think if you take your time, you should easily find a good car at 15k no problem. One of the biggest problems We found was crashed/badly repaired cars, so be on your prepared for this. Don't be in a hurry to buy, if you think you have found a good car and you want to buy GET IT CHECKED buy a Lotus expert! A couple of hundred pounds is a small price to pay for piece of mind and it could save you alot more. To check engine health I would INSIST on a compression check this can reveal an engine problem long before it happens. Exhaust manifolds can crack and are expensive to replace, but replacements have been modified, so if its been changed is not a problem. Basically cars of this age are always going to have little niggles just make sure its not been bent in a crash and the engine is in good health. A good one will drive realy nicely as long as you can fit in it of course!!
One last thing, another friend of mine who recently bought an Esprit (a good example!) realy felt it wasn't his thing and was going to sell it, I asked him why, and he made a list of things he didn't like.They were all small niggles which put him off the car, such as
Hesitation when pulling away.
Getting first gear.
Getting reverse gear.
Pulling left under braking.
All these were easily and cheaply fixed he now loves the car and won't sell it. I hope this hasn't confused you, these cars are believe it or not quite simple to understand and they are fantastic to drive . All The Best!
