So I meet a guy yesterday with a Black V8 and..

So I was on my way into White Plains, NY yesterday when I catch out the side of my eye a Black Esprit V8. SWEET! very rare to see. I go over to it and admire it, looked to be a 97.
It had chrome, not HRE wheels, those other ones that kind of look like a flower (not really though) I have seen them on various Esprits in pictures from owners. So I go get ym haircut and then decide to see if it is still there.
It was still there. Just as I got there the guy who owned got in it. I pull next to it, and say, "Excuse me, are you on any Lotus Message Boards?" And he gives me this 'dont waste my time' look. And he says, "No". I say nice Lotus, hes like "yeah" and kind of turned away as if to say please leave me alone. So I just drove away.
Personally I got to tell you, every person I met around my area while driving around or something that owns a Lotus is really stuck up.
Another time I saw this white S4 and pulled next to him at a light. I said, "Thats my dream car right there, its beautiful" He looks at me and says in a condasending attitude, 'this thing is your dream car? annd rolls his eyes and drove away.
People around here are assholes.
By the way, the black V8 had a Florida plate and I think it said Z06-ETR. If this is someone you know or from here, please tell me you were jst in a bad mood. If not, you dont deserve that car
By the way I now see what some of you are talking about when it comes to the paint job on the Esprit. All I saw were ripples near the wheel wells and on the door. Not smooth at all. But man did it look great when I came back and the sun was going down, he had the bottom lights on, it just glowed perfectly. And the sound of it was fantstic!

I think it was just the regular NY thing. I lived out east for a while and the people are different.
I just could not used to them at all. I live in the Mid West and people are a bit nicer and polite. I don't think the people out east even realize many consider them stuck up and rude. I guess the way to describe most of them are abrupt and demanding.
But I have met some really nice people out there too.
Maybe it is just getting to know them.
Obviously the person you bumped into does not follow the exotic car owners code of conduct as posted in the misc. section of the EFF.

Oh I dont doubt it. Im sure you would be more than happy to show someone your car and talk about it. The Ny Auto Show Lotus Owners were really nice, but then again it could have been because im in the club LOL

"I can't believe it has TOYOTA taillights."
and so on.
I'll bet (with no data to back it up...) that you'll find more enthusiastic owners of V8 Esprits than, say, BMW E46 M3s. The Lotus requires a certain level of commitment beyond just stroking the check.
Oh, and only people in North Jersey suck.

I actually have yet to meet anyone that has anything bad to say about the Lotus... even after they hear it has Toyota tail lights and GM parts. Mostly I get kids in WRX, Civics and Integras yelling at me and giving thumbs up and the guys I hang around with that own DSMs (Eclipse/Talon/Laser/Galant VR4) have a love for cars so they appreciate it. A lot of people ask if it is the V8 and actually perk up when I say it is the 4 banger. Seems they like the 4 better by me.
I had someone say something similar to "it's a shame it only has 300HP" not too long ago.... that was before he got back into his 92HP Civic. Otherwise, by me at least, people could care less how much HP it has as they are just all giddy and happy to see/sit in a Lotus.

I'm from Connecticut and currently on a project in New Jersey. I usually take the Merritt Parkway/Parkinglot to 287/87 to the Tappan Zee, and then down the Garden State I go. Every so often I take the Esprit, so if you happen to spot a black '95 S4s in the White Plains area, feel free to flag me down

Stupidity. which again brings me to my point on how the Esprit gets very undue respect from non-owners.

I like it when peoples faces kind off drop when I tell them about the toyota tail lights, then I say the wing mirrors are citroen but the Jag XJ220 has the same ones and the Diablo has headlights and the Aston Martin has Ford switchgear etc etc. Kind of balances things out. Small production high performance sports cars are gonna use the parts bin or else the cost goes up exponentially.....
