Do Chargecooler cars have second expansion tank?
Discussion
The question is do SE's have two expansion tanks, one for the cooling system and another for the Chargecooler. I dont recal seeing one when I've been putting my head in other owners boots. Does a chargecooler require one, is the expansion that significant or could I get away with a pressure valve venting excess out the car for safty.
This is the only bit of info I need to design the pipe works etc to fit a chargecooler to my 89 Turbo.

The SE's do not have a 2nd expansion tank.
My chargecooler coolant does to get as hot as the engine coolant.
Only a 2nd header tank located next to the coolant header in engine bay. The expansion tank for the cooling is in the trunk or boot as the UK people call it.
On S4 and S4s cars the system is intergated into one. There is not a seperate cooling system and the chargecooler and engine share the coolant with one header tank.
I much prefer the SE system, if something happens to one system it does not affect the other.

The chargecooled cars do have two "header tanks", and one "expansion" tank.
The engine cooling header tank is filled to the top when cold. Any coolant expansion is diverted to the trunk mounted expansion tank on the left hand side. The engine cooling header tank is used simply to keep the air purged out of the cooling system. It COULD be used as an expansion tank 'tho (IMO).
The chargecooler has an expansion tank (located next to the engine header tank) that is CALLED a header tank. In this case, the chargecool coolant is normally only filled part way to the top when cold, then it is free to expand in the tank when hot. There is no other oulet. It also functions to keep air purged from the chargecool system.
Both systems use "blanking caps" on the "header tanks", with a regular "blow-off" type cap on the engine coolant expansion tank in the trunk.

Thanks for your replies, Gixxer thats what I expected.
The S4s approach is interesting and something I have considered. Just figured that it would not be as effecient once the engine heats up and is in full use. The cooling system always seemed borderline for the job on my car anyway. I take it they have larger rads? On the other hand you would automatically get temp and level warnings without extra wiring and dials.
Anyone else have any feelings on this.
