Victor Kiam (no not that one, the one who runs Lotus) confirmed that work has started on the next Esprit in his Autocar interview this week. Unfortunately its not expected until model year 2007, so I guess mid to late 2006 launch.

Plenty of time to save up then.......

Yup, already saving. Only problem is the maintenance bills on the current esprit...

Hopefully within a year or two there will be spy photos of the next Esprit. It better weigh less than 2,600 pounds and have atleast 400 horsepower. Did anybody read this months European Car? There was an article on the Noble. They basically said it was the car Lotus should be building. No more excuses.

I guess it all depends on whether they will be bought by VW, eh?

I hope VW doesnt get a hold of them. VW's are very bad cars. Eveyrone I know who has one, including my cousins and aunts say there isalways something up with them.

Just let Ford buy them out and be done with it. We wont ever have to worry about reliability again.

im not desperate to sell. I love the car. I really want to keep but i dont have room for 4 cars and 2 esprit. So if Im going to get the 03, I will have to compromise with my wife. But I would only sell at a premium (nada +). As I dont NEED to get the 03 right away.. he he he

Matt, overall things are going well. Been driving the Esprit regularly and it now has over 23K miles. Worst part is warranty ends next month.... and still no AC (it's hot!).

The V8 is a great car, but then again so is yours. It would be nice to have a pair of Loti but the WAF (wife acceptability factor) tends to dwindle if you collect too many toys too quickly.

Weather permitting, I'll be out later on (driving) after work has had enough of me. If you'd like a closer view at the V8 as well as go for a spin, stop by.

I, still, believe that this needs to be Lotus' inspiration for the new Esprit:

It's wedgie () and has "the look" IMHO

Hi,

Despite all the current Hoopla regarding the New Esprit, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Lotus' history is inundated with false starts, including the three-time delay of the Elise to US shores (and we still haven't seen that one yet).

A company with the inability and indecisiveness to bring new products to market quickly in today's world is subject to all sorts of outside forces (including market, economic and technological advancements, introduction of competitor's models such as the Ford GT etc.) which make it ever that more difficult to do so.

I'm afraid that, given past histories, there's a good chance the project will never come to fruition. To date, we have seen less corporate activity on the new Esprit (no model, mock-up or technical spec) than surrounded the vaunted M250. And, we all know what happened to that one.

The Moral of the Story... Don't wait for Tomorrow, gobble one up while you can. As Stephen Stills abtly said... "Love the One You're With"...! Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

Solar, I am not looking to save a dollar or get something off ebay. I want a specific car, that I know I will have to spend extra to get......a previous lotus loving owner, s4/s4s.....and BLACK! Please, keep me in mind first if you let it go for a V8! I would be a proud owner. Ian

Got possibilties but that front is feckin' awful. You'll have to put one of those stone guard bags on the font just to open the guarage doors, Even better if it actually looks like a brown paper bag. Worse than the Elise S2 and thats saying something IMO (potential can of worms opened here). Needs a bit of 'flare'.

Hi,

Personally, I don't care for that cheezy Cadillac Pseudo Stealth Fighter Facet look. Frankly, I fail to see any styling in it at all, no proportion, no line.

But, if Lotus does actually get their proverbial act together sufficiently to ever produce and sell the car in my lifetime, I hope it's more along the lines of the Bertone concept car, the Emotion, which is actually placed on a Lotus SE chassis.

Much more in keeping with the italian design roots of the car, it screams Italian, it screams style and contains all the Esprit's styling cues in an updated look. See for yourself:

Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

i think they should keep the general shape strecth it a bit, curve it a bit, drop the pop up lights for new swoopy ones, and continue the evolution on a reasonable and doable budget. It isnt that expensive to come up with some new fiberglass, or replace some steel bits with alum....

There is no excuse for there not to be a new esprit!

Very Nice, I'd seen this before but belived it to be a trail kit car based on the Esprit. If it was in production I would but it, That simple.
