Drivers side mirror become very loose...
Discussion
Ahhhhhh
got my car back from the spray painters and must say the car looks its best at the mo. But to my horror as I was driving off the mirror folded in very easily with the wind force on it. And just swivels too easily and flops around. I have a horrible feeling the guys pushed the mirror in a bit too far while working on the car. The base is tight as we checked the scews, so we think its something perhaps broken in there somewhere.
My question is can this be glued, another screw to tighten somewhere. I would be gutted if I had to buy a whole new unit.
Thanks for your help

Kylie,
There is a 'pot metal' collar which secures the mirror housing to the stalk. It is tapped to accept a screw used to tighten the two pieces together.
If you're lucky, it has just become loose and simply needs tightening. If your luck isn't running particularly well, the collar has broken (notorious for this) requiring it's replacement. Not a horrendous job, or an expensive part.
It is sourced from a Citroen SM. I cannot find the source for the replacement in my notes (must get those organized), but perhaps others with the later cars would care to chime in. Good Luck. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

I am assuming you checked the allen head set screw under the black collar? If not rotate the collar as it is angular and it will reveal the set screw. Also rotate the mirror once the set screw has been loosened to find the optimal screw down point if the mirror has rotated a lot it maybe misalgined.

Kylie,
have a look at Andy Whittaker's site.

I think, he had the same problem.
