Gear select sloppy!
Discussion
I own an 85 Turbo, despite having a year of 'trouble' free motoring, I have to do something with the gear changer slop! I'm lead to believe that it's quite 'normal' to discover extensive play in it, anyone got any ideas or dealt with the problem before?
I'm also after a drivers side door mirror (still getting used to the width, although I think it's the small roads in West Wales that are the problem!!!)
Any help would be great!
Regards,
Gary

replace the shifter cables and/or bushings to tighten up the shift. Jim can tell you about the difference this would make as he replaced his.
It will just take a while to get used to the mirrors. Also what is behind a Lotus is of no importance unless it is a handfull of cars that could gain on you

The gear selector linkage on the 91 is very different from the one found on the 85. The 85 my car uses the Citroen-Maserati gearbox whilst the 91 car uses the Renault Alpine. Later setups (V8) uses a linkage more similar to the one on the 85 my. The solution on the 91 my is very odd whith a "translator" that translates vertical and horisontal movement at the gearstick into a "push-pull" movement on two wires. A "re"-translator attached to the gearbox converts the push-pull movement into rotation and horisontal movment...

Ok, I managed to contact the Lotus technical help line today (It's free advise on any Lotus problem : 01953 608 247)
Told them the problem and they faxed copies of the service manual for dealing with the adjustment on the cables ect, so shall be stuck in the workshop tomrw!
Will post the results of the outcome!
As regards to cars being behind me, the flames that come out of the exhaust usually put people off riding to close :-)
