Engine is coming out – Mod. Suggestions??
Discussion
It is looking like my engine is coming out so I may as well replace and modify stuff at the same time. I am looking for suggestions of what I should replace and any modifications I should do while it is out. So far I have these:
Modifications:
- Lightened flywheel
- Head ported
- Regrind valves
- Upgraded clutch and bearings
Replacement:
- Belts
- Hoses
- Turbo rebuild
- Crank seals
- Engine mounts
Any other suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,

Update:
Got the heads off and it is amazing to see that the pistons look almost new! Hardly any carbon buildup after 30k miles. It may sound like an old wives tale kind of thing but I always add "Marvel Miracle Oil" to my fuel as I was told by a reliable source that it helps with this stuff as well as lubrication, looks like he was right!
Off to get the head ported and polished today!

You should find out how much the machinist has to remove from the head to straighten it.
Milling the head will reduce the combustion chamber size and raise the compression ratio of the engine, which is something that you should pay close attention to.
Your max safe boost level that you can run on pump gas may be effected depending on how much your compression ratio is raised. To much static compression can lead to detination at a lower boost levels.
Just something to keep in mind.
