I agree totally Ron,
Am computer illiterate myself, and was so pleased to find this site and forum. I feel the layout is great, and being as i find it easy to use and understand,Kato must know his stuff.
The Yahoo list looks like the screens on my old schools computers (speak and spell era) and i simply don't enjoy using it at all.
However, the Yahoo does cater for UK only, which provides a local and more social place for those that like regular meets, and local advise. This is important because without such other lists, the whole world could be reading 'fancy a pint...',etc.
Also, being part of Yahoo groups,i'm guessing the moderators cannot change the format,Yahoo must have to?

I think Yahoo is more US centered, at least it appears to be. I know lots of folks on there and they live in the US. No matter though, I agree with you too - it is definitely old school. I run the www.gt40s.com site but I like the software used here better than what I use over there. I might switch at some point.
What I was hoping is that someone could come up with an idea of how to roll the Yahoo forum into something such as this and then dispense with the Yahoo forum. There is a lot of info over there, it is just a serious pain to find it and to follow threads. I know that software exists to convert between different formats of bullentin board software, I just don't know about between the Yahoo format and something else.

There are two major Yahoo groups for Esprit owners.
The US dominated site:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/turboesprit/
It has about 1400 registered members and gets about 1300-1400 posts per month.
and
The UK dominated site
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/UKLotusEsprit/
This currently has 620 members and averages about 1200-1100 posts per month.
The UK group operates closely with LotusEspritWorld (LEW). The Yahoo facilities allow for a photo archive, polls, and a database. Yahoo members can configure their profile so they get post to the site as either; individual emails, a daily digest or just use the web interface
I have not finished a comprehensive search on the Pistonhead members database but I think there are about 50 Esprit members registered on Pistonheads.
The Yahoo UK-Esprit group are current considering if we should move to a new host and mount a more modern Forum Engine. There are plus's and minus's to this and at the moment we will keep it the way it is.
I would recommend that keen Esprit owners should be members of all three internet based lists. People who prefer to only refer to Pistonheads should realise that the other two sites combined represent a massive knowledge base across all the model range.
Posts to the UK site can also be read by key people at Lotus

I love both forums.
On the Yahoo one, I get everything delivered via e-mail. It is a FAR more active forum, but also very technically oriented. It is invaluable for maintenance and upgrade sort of things.
This forum is more fun oriented. And you have the benefit of General Gassing for amusement.
So, Yahoo for business, PH for pleasure.

Ron,i was not very clear,sorry.
The Yahoo forum i was refering to was the UK Yahoo esprit group,i know nothing of its US kin.
Dermot,i always veiw your group when i'm on line.
I must stress though,i REALLY am new (this year) to ever touching a computer. Thus, individual e-mails,web interfaces etc mean nothing to me. Am still in a childlike awe of the web,and am like a magpie to the prettier sites.
Appreciate that you have looked into changing your set up,will continue to use,but echo Ron's comment on following threads, would help us luddites no end.
I read any esprit thing i stumble on.

I use the USA Yahoo and this forum.
A lot of V8 chatter on the USA site.
More 4 cyl here, both are good.
Although I must admit I have been trying to lure more 4 cyl people over here as the posts have grown so much on the USA site sometimes it is hard to wade through the NLC to get to stuff that can help us.
Never used the UK site before so I don't know much about it at all.

My first resource was the Yahoo US group and it had and still has a lot of info. However I found it is a pain to locate exactly what you need. For example, when you search for a topic or phrase, you have to wade through mountains of short off topic replies and advertisments. It gives you all the results as opposed to letting you start at the original topic and go through the replies in order. I have had much more luck with the search function here.

That is because it has such a large membership. This forum is more like how the list used to be years ago.
People we are familiar with having a nice chat. On list many chime in go off the subject, it's nice having a vareity of thoughts but sometimes one has to go through many of the one liners to get to the relevent items.
