As my first go on this site Im going to try and get a solution to an ongoing proble. Mys 84 esprit turbo continues to shake the steering wheel at varying speeds just like wheels are out of balance. Its got new Goodyear NCT 5s on the front that have been balanced normally through the centre hole and then again on a 5 stud mounting. Any suggestions on what the real cause is.

Check your wheel bearings, and also make sure that the mating surfaces on the hubs are clean and free from any rust/corrosion that could keep the wheels from seating properly agianst the hub.
I am not sure if your year uses hubcentric type wheels, but if you are running an aftermaket type wheel, they sometimes require a hubcentric ring to be installed on the shoulder of the wheel hub so that the road wheel is properly centered.
You may also want to have you alignment checked out. If it is out (especially caster/toe) along with worn suspension bushings and wheels that are not perfectly balance, these few small things can contribute to wheel shimmy that won't seem to go away. I've see alot of this with the BMW 8 series crowd.
Good luck and keep us posted on what you find!

All the things mention before is good to check. It is not uncommon for the cause to related to worn steering rack. Do you know how to check the rack and previous items for play? Also has the dot on the tire been aligned with your valve stem or 180 degrees of the valve stem?

My main problem came down to the rotors believe it or not. I got much of the wobble out with new tires, re-greased bearings etc. but the final thing was the rotors. Replaced them and it all went away.
