Leaking Sunroof
Discussion
I have a i wierd leaking sunroof problem which i think i have just isolated but can't for the life of me work out what to do next, my drive has a slight slope, if i park the car facing south water
builds up in the sunrrof gully with no apparent place to go it then seems to seep through the two black sunroof things that you insert the black bits into, and then into the car, the sun visor area is
soaked like a sponge and of course if the rains heavy it starts to drip on the seats. Anyone have any ideas i would have assumed the sunroof holder was solid but mine obviously isnt. Any ideas

Ok, maybe someone else has some better advice….?
I know the late 90’s V8’s have similar fixings to the 89, so I guess they are the same for your 97.
The sunroof tongues fit into two ‘cups’. I guess you could try sealing around the inside edge of these cups (behind the front covers and where the fibber glass seam is just visible) with some black RTV sealant but this might look a mess and interfere with the fit. I removed the cups and re-sealed everything.
Take out the sun roof and you will see there are two screws holding each cup into the roof (on my 89 these were all seized and snapped off when trying to remove them, but I hope on yours they would be okay). Anyway, You need to remove the 4 screws. You should then be able to pull the surrounds away from the panel as they are not stuck on, and see the plastic cups that are deeper into the roof.
Next remove the interior panel supporting the sun visors (4 screws, 2 under each visor on the 89, not sure if same on yours?). Then just pull this panel down from the front to give enough room to reach up behind it and pull the two cups out (if you want to take it out completely then you have to remove the roof seal and glue the fabric back later… )
The cups are just stuck onto the underside of the roof using RTV so you can clean them up (and also the inside of the fibreglass that they fit against) and re-assemble using plenty of sealant. Make sure you get plenty of sealant around the actual screw threads near the head as you put them back as otherwise water will creep through there.
Also, I replaced the original screws with some stainless steel ones that look a lot better and should come out without snapping next time.
Hope this is of some help, and hope you parked it the right way last weekend or you might have more than a wet arse when you open it!
