So far there has not been an issue with this ferrocious little engine that I can't work out but lately I am experiencing something new. Running through the gears it pulls very hard almost 1 bar in every gear but once in a while I will get to 4th or 5th gear and no boost, I back off and try again and the same thing. No engine light and goes away as quicklty as it came. I am assuming it is mechanical possibly the vacuume actuator ? Has anyone had this ?

If you are below 3K the turbo kick will come in around 3000-3200. Just rev the engine past 3K.

Hi there, mine comes in at 2000RPM or just under since I had my wastegate freed.
before then it was seized ever so slightly open. This would make the turbo not come in until 3500RPM and sometime in higher gears it would take longer.
Mine runs like a dream now apart from the petrol tank which Iam having fixed next week.
Also changed my plugs and I have noticed a better response with turbo spool up.
I think the main reasons for my turbo spooling up so soon is the wastegate being fixed and me upgrading the actuator.
Older cars, the spring in your original actuator will be weak and could be knackered.

Just a thought.

Cheers,

In stock SE's the whack you in the back of the head turbo kick is right around 3K and is quite normal. The S4s chips have a smoother and early turbo kick that is not as noticeable. To many it appears it is slower becasue the turbo is quite a bit smoother, but it is a bit faster than an SE. In a head to head between a SE and S4s in a real world setting the difference was not that much till the higher speeds. There is a similar difference between the S4s and V8. The difference in power is more apparent between an SE and a V8.

From this statement I presume you are going full throttle in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and then you lose boost. If so, it sounds like the chargecooler isn't working properly, the ECM is backing off on the boost as the intake air temp (MAT) climbs.

Thanks for your comments , It's interesting regarding the Chargecooler becauce I replaced the impeller last year. Afterwards the horsepower difference was astounding. I would be surprized if that were the problem although I'm not willing to totaly rule it out. Is there a possibility that the { MAT } is reading wrong ? I recently had it out for a spirited run and pulled over to check the Chargecooler temp with my hand . It was cold.

Still investigating
Thx
