Hi all,

Since I bought my first Esprit a few weeks back, I've noticed that the speedo hops up and down and I can hear the mechanism at low speeds. I'm wondering if there is a procedure for lubricating the drive? Any ideas? Proper lube?

Thanks!

You can lube the cable but not the speedo unless you have a crimp tool much like how one crimps a tin can. A shop that fixes speedo's can do if you can remove it from the car.

Check to see there are no sharp bends anywhere on its journey from gearbox to speedo. To lubricate would reqire removing inner. Normally this is achieved by pulling it out from speedo end. If its very dry it is probably worn too so a new cable may be in order.

David,

Which Esprit is it you have? I had similar problems on my 94 S4 - long story, so I wont bore you if it's a different model:-)
