Is there an easy way to reset the radio? Mine says "code" but I don't have any code for it, unfortunately? Any ideas?

Thanks,

You must enter a 4 digit code to reset the stereo. It is found on a small label on the inside rear of the stereo chassis. Just remove it from the stereo pod and take the top cover off the radio to see the label.

Just joking! Don't remove the stereo! I haven't a clue what code means on the radio. Sorry I just couldn't resist. Just seemed like an answer one would get on a simple problem with a Lotus.

Check the owners manual - see if the PO had made a note of the code somewhere in there..? Also, check with the supplying dealer - in the uk its normal for the dealer to keep records of the key code and radio codes for all new vehicles supplied. Where did you buy the car? Can you check with the previous owner? If you bought from a dealer then its up to them to make sure that what they've sold u is usable, and clearly the radio in this case isnt..

Alternatively, it may be worth pulling the unit out, just in case someone has written it on the case?

Failing that, an audio store may give you some ideas - e.g. how to contact the manufacturer etc but unless you have proof of purchase you probably won't get the code from them.

I've heard that some older units can have the code 'wiped' by placing them in the freezer, but i'm not sure if this is just an urban myth

Final option - new units aren't that expensive these days...

Look the face of the radio over. Is there a very small recessed button that you can push with a needle? If so, I believe you need to push and hold for a period of time (a minute I believe) to clear out the locked condition. Try doing it a couple of ways, first push and hold prior to turning on the radio, then if that doesn't work turn on the radio and then push and hold. It's been 5 yrs but I think this is correct.
