'89 Esprit Throttle cable Installation

The Service Notes are kind of silent on how to install a replacement throttle cable. It talks about lifting the strap on the console to remove some screws to get into the shifter area. But I find no screws under the strap. What am I missing? Also, according to Wally at Star Motors there is some part number confusion on the proper length part cable. My Esprit was made early in 1989.

Has anyone installed one before? If not, I'll do a photo set on the installation.

There are 2 screws under the strap on the sides, near where the strap attaches. You might have to take the "pocket" thing off too, as there is a projection that fits under it. I got the pocket off by pulling the seats foreward and using a long screwdriver to get to the 4 screws.

I replaced my cable, but I just replaced the cable part, not the sheath. I used some stainless braided cable with a 400+ lb work load rating I bought from McMaster-Carr and made the ends for it.

I belive you on the length question. The one I took out was way too long, which was the problem. Couldn't adjust it enough to get all the slack out, and the thing came loose on me at the pedal while I was trying to drive home one day. From the glue residue on the cable, I suspect the PO had Aggie-rigged it up somehow.
