Hi

Ok so I posted a a complaint about the tackyness of my dashboard and have since realised that one of my whom friends who I have known for years, is a composite lamanator for a Carbon Fibre thingy producer (it wasn't just me none of us knew what he did) . I am going to meet his manager thursday to discuss getting a CF dashboard made, I was thinking of having a mould done so he can make as many as required from my mould. Is anyone interested in a CF dash, I don't know how much just yet. will let you know thursday afternoon after meeting the guy.

Hi there. It sounds easier than it really is. The mould costs are high and may put you off.
I get carbon fibre sunroofs made by my local company. The project was a pain in the arse to be honest.
It would be better if you can get it done by your friend on the side.
My local guy would probably make moulds at around £100 each then it's the making that will be anywhere in the region of £30-50 each. When you add all that up and you don't get many people interested then a very costly project.
I would be interested at the right price. It could also do some investigations myself if yours prove too expensive.

Cheers,

As soon as I know the cost I will post it, it's not gonna be cheap but it is a Mod I really wanna make. I think most people remember my rant about this before . They also do carbon fiber skins so it sicks on to the existing dash, that would be cheaper, will need to see what looks best and if the price is worth it. Superdave saw you on the 200sx OC earlier

Are you on the SXOC as well?
Have you thought about doing it yourself? Overlaying that is.

Hi there I went to a fabricator a while back last year and gave him my dash to play with to just lay the cf over top and pull off. Its not a true replica shape of the original as its slighter bigger, but can be retro fitted to fit no probs. He had a go after seeing my attempts and I am afraid my ones where just as good as his. He said doing moulds are really no better as in this case its the weave you have to get right and there are just too many tricky corners and holes to get the weave going in the right direction with out falling apart. So I have broken it down into parts and glueing them seperatly. Will get some pics up soon when they are in a more presentable state.

Hi Kylie,

It can be done. Just look at mine:

A friend by the name of Leo Kozloski did the work. His business - Carbonwerks - is located in Pensylvannia, USA. You can contact him at 1-(610)374-2464 and tell him that Karl from Florida sent you. You can also email him at jawasan@att.net. His prices were fairly reasonable and the work was top notch albeit slow. You can pay him by PayPal.

Thanks, good news. The gaps where the light switches go, is there carbon in there or is it attached as two sections? Thanks for the email address :-)

The carbon is trimmed around the rounded rectangular opening for the switches. The inside of the rectangle is pained black like the original wood trim. The entire pieces are then covered in a heavy coat of UV resistant gloss epoxy coat that is mirror smooth. Here's a pic of the trim installed on my car:

Carbon fiber always looks better in real person than in pictures where the 3D effect is lost.

How much was the CF dash? For some reason there is "?" in front of the prices.
