I don't know how many times I've seen the Esprit part in this film, far too many. I don't think I'd let a woman drive my Esprit...well my woman anyway!

Very sweet, one day I'll own an SE...

If I recall this part correctley doesn't he have to pay for her "company" perhaps he thought that if he let her drive the car he wouldn't have to pay. I have tried that but it doesn't work

Her driving the Esprit is the only time Julia Roberts has ever even been remotely attractive to me. My dream woman drives an Esprit... well, she would. She's out there somewhere

Well the movie has inspired one of my favorite come back lines to a question about my Esprit.

When a person asks me:
"How does it make you feel when you drive an Esprit"?

"Sometimes it makes me feel like driving around a seedy part of town, picking up a good looking street harlot and turning her into a sophisticated cultured lady".

I would let Kylie drive my car.
In fact I usually let other seasoned Esprit owners have a go with my car.

But I do not let anyone behind the wheel of the Esprit who has not had prolonged experience driving a similar type of performance car no matter what the gender.

I would be more inclined to let long term Ferrari or Lamborghini owner have a go with my car as long as he seemed to be a person with superior driving skills.

Kylie, I agree with you, for the minute, I wouldn't even attempt to drive anybody else's Esprit at the moment, I've only had mine a few weeks, and in that drove it four times! - all of which were an experience - a tad different to an RS escort!

Kalvin, I agree with you also, before, other than the speed, I would have thought that you could just jump into any sports car and drive it. Now I have one, I was wrong, it's completely different to what I expected!

The accident rate is fairly high on the 1st year of Esprit ownership. Many accidents could have been avoided. A lot could not handle full boost/WOT on wet or roads with loose gravel.

The story that sticks in my mind was of one novice Esprit driver out for some fun with veteran drivers engaged full boost while accelerating from a full stop. He went sideways hitting one curb, over compensated and hit the other curb. He snapped both hubs off and the car ended up scraping the road to a stop with it's wheels folded over. It was ugly.

If im not mistaken, wasnt there pics of that accident. I remember seeing an Esprit against a curb with its wheels snapped in. And someone here I think pointed out how much money that was gonna cost him.

That was Keen's old SE that he sold. It was in very good condition. The new owner only had it for a little while. I think it the picture was posted a while a go, from what I recall it was over 10K to fix, maybe 15K in USD.

Thanks Calvin, I am the same if a person had a lot of experience in driving these things in a safe and controlled manner and had a clean record themselves, I say go for it, but for anyone with little experience or a reputation for being an idiot gets turned away.

I got to say I wasn't too bad driving the Esprit for the first time as I have driven lots of older style Holden/Ford V8's (wide long car, notchy gear shift plenty of power), even my father's left hand drive collectors 73 Dodge Challenger, no worries. The esprit just looked scary when I bought it, hence asked the partner to drive it first

The fastest way for me to become a more confident driver and learn a few tricks on steering was taking it to the track. Money well spent in my view.

Full boost? Not even. I was in 2nd gear at 30 mph, taking off from a stoplight. And don't forget that I was on race tires, too. Although, I was used to driving an AWD, turbo truck that had all the traction you could ever ask for.

I guess that's what insurance is for.

I remember now. You still had the Toyo's on. All they have is a couple of lines towards the middle of the tire to channel. Wet roads with those tires, plus the Esprit, yuck. Still what a deflation of a good time when one just aquires a car. In what is supposed to be the happiest time. Rick you have had the car for a few years and I doubt you would make the same mistake again. If it breaks loose again you would have a better than average to recover. I have gotten sideways before (in front of Jim)during a fun drive. I saw the look on his face as I got it straight again, I wonder what my face looked like during those few seconds.

Nor did it state that one of the "veteran" drivers was in a Jetta, and the other was in your passenger seat...
