S4 wheels on SE, whats involved?
Discussion
I (think) i've got a basic idea, but would like to know what is needed to put S4 alloys on an SE.
1,I think the fronts go straight on,but the rears need a spacer for the offset?.
2,Do either need the centers enlarged,or is that for even later wheels?.
3,Is it something i can do at home, assuming i get the spacers and wheels c/w tyres?.
4,Does the spacer bolt to the hub (countersunk bolts?) and then wheel fits to it, Or,do longer wheel nuts pass through the spacer?.
5,If so,then how thick is it?,is the finished job as strong as the original wheel/hub attachment?.
Thanks in advance,
PAUL C

Hi Paul, the answer to your question is very simple.
S4 alloys are the same offest as SE ones, no spacers necessary.
The rears go straight on and drive away.
The fronts however are 58.1mm centre diameter but the SE ones and your hub is 60.1mm diameter. You can either scim your hub or the inside of the wheel. I did my wheel in the end as it only cost £25 for the two. I had heard that scimming the hub could compromise it and the would be extra labour involved removing them and replacing. Also you can still use your car while your new wheels are being scimmed.
You mentioned about spacers, I put 25mm on mine only because I had after market alloys which stuck out further and wanted the same look. The bolts had to be replaced. The standard bolts are 60 degree counter sunk 14mm x 1.5mm pitch x 25mm long. Just add the spacer width to your new bolts. To ensure no wheel wobble, go for hub centric spacers as oppose to universal spacers. Uni spacers mean that you have to hold everything while you put your wheel on, do't located 100% and can cause wheel wobble. Hub centric kits can cost upto £80 per set of two as opposed to a fiver each for uni spacers. A big difference hey.
If you need any more info then please give me a shout.

ps. Which model do you have?

Thanks Dave,
Have just sold my S3 of five years, And am getting an SE next. Have never liked the original OZ's, so much so that it made me dislike the whole stevens shape for a bit.
You have supplied me here with what i need to know. I wanted to know how much to figure for, and if a car already fitted with them would be a saving, etc.
NOT intending a 'best wheel' debate guys,Please!
