A recurring theme i know,but...
A while ago i asked about agreed value insurance.
I was trying to find out alternatives to being tied to Club lotus via insuring through Footman James, getting CL valuations etc, etc.

Dictys suggested Classicline. As i've now sold my Esprit,i called them today for a quote on the next one, a '89 SE turbo valued at about 12k.
(FJ Quoted me circa £390).

£185 for 3k miles,
£237 for 5k miles.

I asked also, how much i'd need to pay if i put my girlfriend on too (she's only been driving 14 months and has only driven a 1.1 saxo), the excess went to £1000 (fair enough),and...

£248 for 3k miles,
£321 for 5k miles.

Am staggered really so i thought i'd share. This means i have more of my car budget to spend on the car.
Cheers Dictys, sound recomendation. Sorry you came to need yours though mate.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the info, I've recently been looking for someone who can insure my Esprit. Unfortunately all the major and recommended companies including Footmans want to charge me a fortune due to my age. Hopefully when I'm 25 next year, the cost will be more realistic! Currently the S3 is insured through Herts (HIC) for a reasonable £600 full comp and 6k for the year - believe me that's cheap. As you can imagine I've had stupid quotes!

Thanks again,

Brent.

How do you get £600??

I'm 28, the car is an 89SE and is stored in a locked, alarmed garage. The postcode area is rated as 2.2 (North East Manchester). I have 10 years clean drivig licence and full no clames on two other vehicles which I use daily, but still pay nearly £800 for 5K miles classic for the Esprit.

To be honest I thought I was paying more than most, but I would expect that. Mine is a '83 S3(the 'G' type), normally aspirated, and valued at 6k. I drive an old Fiesta XR2 modified with Twin 40's for daily use insured with the same company, and they have kindly mirrored my 60% no claims for the Lotus (on their classic car policy). I would have thought though that the extra cost and performance of an SE would bump it up considerably.

When your next renewal is up, try AON, I now that they insure classic high performance cars and are cheap, unfornately they won't touch me until I'm 25.

Pretty complete thread then:

Recomendation of a cheaper insurer,
A good quote from the insurer,
Proof the insurer pays out.

They have my stuff on file ready for when i get my next one. Will not shop any further now.

My renewal came today. I've tried a few others already and some are better and some are worse. Tomorrow I will have sorted it so when I have I'll post the prices for information. It will make interesting reading !

Tesco's are quite good, I pay £1400 fully comp a year, sounds high but I was 20 when I took out the insurance so it's not too bad.

£1400 insurance premiums...
Makes my £185 look like peanuts really. Just goes to show exactly HOW important owning an Esprit is to some people,i guess.

Just renewed mine, here's the details :

97GT3, full NCD, garaged, cat 1 + tracker, 5,000 miles. I'm 35. Declared 280 bhp chip.

Renewal: Privilege : £830, excess £750 for theft, £900 for damage

Carole Nash : £1400 !!! Did not bother to ask the excess

Autotoque : £671 to £724 depending on using NCD or not. Also needs CL membership. £250 excess

Adrian Flux : £563, £400 excess

Classic Line : £575, £250 excess, no need for NCD

So, Classic Line wins the day.

Also, I should be able to use my full NCD on my other car now ( was only 1 year ) so I should save a few extra pounds there as well.
