S4s keys and alarm

Bruce,
There is no remote for the S4s. The alarm is armed by turning the key past the lock position for a moment on the door when you lock it.
Actually Jim,
The correct way to activate the alarm is to turn the key fully to the horizontal position while locking the door and removing it whilst in the horizontal position. If you just move the key momentarily past the lock position, the alarm doesn't always activate.
Of course this means nothing to you since you already have a keyless entry.

can someone actually check the owners manual?
bmw's have the double lock system that seems similar.
if you just tilt the key and then remove it in the upright position the doors lock but from inside you can unlock them. If you turn it fully sideways there is a second solenoid that blocks the door from unlocking from the inside. so even if you smash the glass you cant open the door.
Maybe the Esprit does this.
My car is away in winter storage, so I cant test this.
Surely the owner's manual explains this.
well I gather there is an alarm in my car, but no remote, no flashing parking lights, no red LED... just a horn honker I guess....
I will install a remote for the door locks cause I dont wanna scratch the paint next to the lock...
Bruce,
Thanks for the replies so far..

After looking in the manual and checking my car, that is correct, the Esprit works the same way. You cannot unlock the door from the inside when the alarm is armed by turning the key to horizontal and withdrawing it. You can unlock it from inside if it is armed by turning the key to horizontal and back to vertical. There are also red LED's on the ultrasonic sensors located above the headrests of each seat.
Hope this helps.
Jim
