Just curious....... what do you guys think the value of the 88 should have really been? I checked Edmunds, and it ranged from 13,600-23K (based on a Utah zip code)which probably resulted in a lower valuation.

There were things wrong with that car from what I understand. 13K is what one would normally pay for a nice G car with HCI getting a tad more. Prices are still steady on good working examples of S body cars. I have hear of SE's going for 15K but it had some issues with the car.

I think an 88 with moderate to low miles would be somewhere in 15-18K range with the SE's starting at 18-19K going to the mid 20's. S4 in the mid 20's to 30K, S4s in 30-35K then 97 V8's starting in the upper 30's to low 40'sK. and the rest in line after that.

Prices seems stable for 4 cyl car with the V8's taking the brunt of hit on prices. A lot of people can afford a 20-30K car, a lot more than 40-50+K car.

For Clean under 30,000 mile vehicles retail 'should' be imo

88 23k+
SE 28k+
s4 33k+
s4s 38k+

23K for an 88 seems a bit high to me, and eBay would be more than half that. Guess it depends on what you mean by "retail." I bought my first Lotus from a used Lotus dealer and it was not a good thing. I bought my 89 on eBay for 17.5 with a buy-it-now and I am happy.

I would say that a clean 88 should sell in the area of 15K.

At Solars prices the car will be for sale for a bit. They are a little high. Hess paid a fair price for a non SE 89. low 20's for an 89 1/2 SE is about right.

I just noticed this on the LotusEspritWorld wanted page:

"WANTED: Lotus Esprit SE 89 - 92, will pay up to £8000 for the right car, contact Mike 0207 908 7741 or 07952 876358"

There is no way I would let my SE go for anything like this, but I'm interested to see if anyone else would sell their 'right car' SE in the uk for £8000 ?

** thats about $4500 in USD right? **

Hi All! I'd have tp say that the price is what you can/or are willing pay. I paid 18,500 for my 1988 turbo and it was not a bad deal. The car had service history, perfect interior, better than good/almost excellent paint, and above all... a truthfull seller. Everything that is/was wrong with the car he told me about. I didn't mind because I was running into so many "you'll have no problems with this car" people trying to sell... Please? It's a Lotus... "L" lot's -"O" of - "T" trouble - "U" usually - "S" serious! LOTUS! I admit that this is not particularly the case, but it ain't no Camry (or I would not be driving it!). The fun has been well worth the price. Knowing what I was getting was worth the price as well... If you are happy with what you have - that's all that really matters to me! Everytime I pass some SUV with kdis glued to the window by the nose, I think - Yep... this is goooood! Yes Porsche... I did find a substitute!

Enjoy your rides!

PS: While replacing the clutch, I have elected to do a really good cleaning inside the engine bay and I'm wire brushing all the little mettal bits! It is going to be swweet! I'll get out some photos whan I'm done!
