My esprit will backfire here and there...like when I am on the pedal really hard on the highway, and I let up on the gas. How often do you experience this, and when?

Almost every time. I'm taking it to my mechanic. I've told him I don't want it back till its perfect. Perfection isn't too much to ask for, especialy when dealing with such simple electricals.

Isn't an occasional backfire normal for the esprit?

Yes, I think for most cars. I noticed it more after doing my exhaust. May have something to do with back pressure.

Yip I seem to dump a lot of unburnt fuel in the exhaust. Crackles and pops sound quite cool. Only when I am really giving the car some stick it gives a loud backfire like a gun shot, otherwise its fine.

Yes - all the time on the over-run when the engine is nice and hot. Must be something to do with the fact that the exhaust gets so hot, being so short and close to the turbo, and also the fuel mix. Must admit that I quite like it though!!

Turbo cars run rich and after lift off it does happen sometimes. Sometimes flames out the pipe with straight pipes and no cat.

Mine does it all the time on over run. If I have been giving it some stick I have been told by a few people that it is flaming quite nicely :-)

My backfires more than most cars... the mechanic said it is related to the turbo (when you lift off the gas after a run) but in my opioion it sounds like a race car... That is why I bought a Esprit... Race Car for the Street!!!
