I'm in need of a solid roof panel for a 1990 SE. Anyone have a lead on one for me? Or have one to sell? I'm in the US, but that doesn't matter so much. Thanks for any help yoou can provide, R

If you don't have any luck with finding a composite roof then I might have a slolution in carbon fibre that replaces your glass element. Have a look on www.lotusespritworld.com
The composite roofs are like gold dust apparently.

How much?

I don't much the point of a CF roof panel with 1.5 kg of weight savings, it just doesn't seem worth it. I feel fiberglass roof would suit me just fine but I'm open to considering it for sure.

Let me know if you're selling or have leads on other panels. Thanks much,

Ron

Hi Ron,
Do you have the glass one now? I might consider a trade. I'm looking for a glass one for my '89.

I have a plastic one actually, clear, but not glass. These are made by that company that makes all the aftermaket tops for hi end cars. Yes, I might consider a trade but I need to verify mine is optically good - it has a headliner in it right now I've not pulled out so I need to see what is under it. It works great, fits great, but a clear roof is not what is needed where I live - it is too damn hot.

Hi there, I didn't do the carbon fibre sunroof to save me any weight etc. At the time it was the only way I could make a solid roof. I had a glass roof and it was too hot in the summer. I wanted to make a GRP composite one but could not find anyone to loan me their roof to make a mould from. I was only left with my glass roof to take a mould. The shape of it being nearly flat meant the GRP wouldn't be strong enough, so I had to get it made in CF.
Compared to Lotus prices for a new composite roof of £500+VAT=£587.50 + fitting kit @ £175+VAT=£205.63. Total in Us Dollars could be $1483.00 + shipping!
So in this instance, the CF (undrilled) option is the cheapest new option at $372 + shipping and you can use the existing fitting from your glass roof.

Cheers,

Ron,
If you can get some pics of your roof and the manufacturer send them to me via e-mail. I don't understand why there is a head liner and clear at the same time. Let me know.
