Just installed new EBC green pads, stainless steel hose, Castrol SRF brake fluid, rebuilt all calipers, resurface all rotors. What's the best way to bed in the pads?
Hi,
You want to use them firmly, but sparingly the first 100 or so miles to bed them in and avaoid glazing.
If going straight away to the track, be mindful that they may catch fire until gassed and heat cycled several times.
This happened to a friend of mine who had a sceduled track day. We stayed up all nite to get the car in shape, including new pads. He figured that they'd bed-in and gas off on the 200+ mile trip to the track.
He pitted after 3 or 4 hot laps and when getting out of the car, a bystander told him his car was on fire. He looked at the brakes and the paint used on the backing plate had caught fire from the heat and was burning off. Happy Motoring! ...Jim'85TE
Grass Roots Motorsports had a How-To on bedding in pads a few months ago. If I recall, they recommended a series of slow downs from increasing speeds, but not stopping. For instance: Go 30MPH, rapidly slow down to just rolling, go 60, rapidly slow down to just rolling, go 100, rapidly slow down to just rolling. Don't stop, as then the pads and rotors interact. You might look up the article.
